When we stepped outside, I mentioned to Israel that he was smiling at me. Oh he was stumbling over himself to smile at you, he said. (Why is it that these rare moments come always at the most inconvenient times?) On the plane from DAL to AMA Monday morning, I boarded and sat toward the back. At the last minute the plane filled up with a Colorado hockey team. They filled most of the remaining seats at the back. I was surrounded on all sides. They fell into deep sleep en masse within five minutes of takeoff.

I envy you getting to see the Rosa show. I remember the first time I saw one of his paintings, although for the life of me, I can't remember where it was. My partner and I were in a museum somewhere and we were both transfixed by a large painting hanging in a stairway (I think it was a stairway). Neither of us had ever heard of him, but we were so impressed that we started looking out for his works as we visited other museums. What did you think of the exhibition?

The exhibition for me was the same experience. I knew next to nothing about him, but the paintings more or less blew me away. About half were large Poussin like landscapes with small allegorical scenes. The scenes were usually very expressive - much more full of life than Poussin. There were also several smaller paintings of witches & sabbaths etc. These were especially intriguing.
