No art has been so hindered in its development by teachers as music, since
nobody watches more closely over his property than the man who knows that, strictly speaking, it does not belong to him.

How thoughtful of you to share this :-).

A few minutes ago, I plugged in iTunes and listened to these (and also the Ten Pieces for Wind Quintet). Thank you for calling them to my attention. They are brilliant pieces. The writing for the winds is amazing. For me, Ligeti has emerged from the pack of his generation (Berio, Boulez, etc.) as the best of them all. I'll put them on my phone and also listen tomorrow several times.

Sometimes I feel odd posting about music or a poem, etc. But, many times, these things have carried me through a rough day and seeped into my bones.

I will look forward to your Stanford posts. The CCRMA is one of my fantasy graduate programs.

So I wake up on a beautiful morning, after the first good night's sleep in a long while, I make myself a cup of tea with a little honey in it. I sit at my desk and I begin to read through peoples' journal entries. This one gets me thinking because, really, music more than art or...well, yes, in fact. So I take a look at the comments and Robert has written below and I click on the link and then, rather too quickly, I'm sat and getting a little teary. Jeez, I need to get back to Endless Boogie or Los Lobos...but instead I spend £30 on iTunes. And will be going for a walk later today.
Thank you both.
